This is just an idea to throw around, I know that it isn't most convienient but hey, its just my ten coppers.
Currently clergy has the choices of specialization on several ways, such as exorcism and warding, currently Protectors have nothing like such, to my knowledge anyhow, just training to be stronger/better in combat. We could have weapon specialitation! Like sword and board, two handed, spear and so on.
I am aware that this does pose a threat of losing the symbol of protection in shield and sword as many would be protectors could choose to go macho and wield two handed swords of doom or spears of death, of course all of such weapons should be church themed in outlooks at least.
And I also know it could break the great image of church "military" force by everyone having a different weapon, but it atleast has career possibilities! It is probably too much freedom giving to the norm of protectors, but something atleast to think about, perhaps?
As a side suggestion, I'd suggest we post church uniforms and weapon policies somewhere on this site with perhaps a few screenshots how the end product should look like whilst addorned by a willing model. So no one (like me) needs to be confused what people can wear and what they can't. It can be some work, but then people don't need to explain it over and over again. Of course giving the uniform to new members always probably removes the need for this, but it never hurts to make sure people know where we are standing, and what are we supposed to stand in, we surely can't protect the cathedral naked! Or can we...
